It is always fun to play around in this online tool. Sometimes a designer just needs such restricted grid system to quickly create a shape made of block, whether it is for calligraphy or for some 8-bit character design. It is always useful!

but please please revert the export and copy settings back to the old way where you download the SVG or PNG directly as I when I copy into AI, i just get a blank box!

Can this application be used for commercial purposes?
Answer: Yes.
I wish that the basic shapes or brush like triangle and quarters can be rotated with double click or something before I draw and place it on the grid as I need the shape to be rotated for aesthetic reason. Of course I can just modify it within Illustrator but yeah.

In 2012, Qassim developed the first version of this web application under
"Square Kufi / Kufi Murabba" name. The concept of the app was to help users create one kind of arabic calligraphy which is Square Kufi using pen and eraser tools.
Square Kufic is one of the oldest calligraphy style in the arabic heritage. It appears from the thirteenth century on coins, tile work and elsewhere in Iraq, Turkey & Iran. In today’s world, it is used for logotypes by some designers of both, the Arab world as well as globally.
At the end of 2014, and after feedback and further development of his vision, He developed a lot of concepts to created an advanced and smart tool for type-designers and graphic designers which would help them to create pixel arts based on a grids system, in a much more faster way. Thus, this web application has now emerged as something more than a tool to create Kufi arabic calligraphy - it has become a Typogrid.
